Chief advisor calls on Uruguay to build bridges through sports

Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has urged Uruguay to build bridges with the people of Bangladesh through sports. The Chief Advisor made the call during a courtesy call on Uruguay's Non-Resident Ambassador to Bangladesh Alberto A. Guani at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday, BSS reported.


Ambassador Guani told the Chief Advisor that there are many unexplored areas of cooperation between Uruguay and Bangladesh, which could create unprecedented potential for the two countries. He said that it is commendable that Bangladesh is leading the world in social business.


Referring to the popularity of sports, especially football, in Bangladesh, Dr. Yunus said, "Both countries have a passion for sports, especially football. We can connect through this."
The meeting was attended by Lamia Morshed, Chief Coordinator for SDGs, and officials from the Office of the Chief Advisor and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


Commemorative postage stamp released


Bangladesh Postal Department has released a commemorative postage stamp of ten taka, an inaugural envelope of ten taka, a data card of five taka and a special seal to commemorate the 'July Uprising-2024'. Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus released the postage stamp in Jamuna on Sunday evening. At that time, Post and Telecommunication Advisor Nahid Islam, Secretary of the Post and Telecommunication Department Dr. Mushfiqur Rahman and Director General (Additional Duty) of the Directorate of Posts SM Shahabuddin were present.


The theme of the stamp depicts the spontaneous participation of women in the July Uprising. The stamp highlights the role that women played in accelerating the July Uprising.


eanwhile, several families of martyrs of the July Uprising met with the Chief Advisor in Jamuna yesterday. The meeting discussed various issues including the trial of the murders committed during the July Uprising, the formation of the July Uprising Directorate, state honors and recognition of the families of the injured and martyrs, financial assistance and rehabilitation.


The chief advisor listened to the expectations of the martyr's family and outlined the government's ongoing activities as well as its future plans at the meeting. Information Advisor Nahid Islam and Sarjis Alam, one of the organizers of the July Uprising, were present at the time, among others.
