Sheikh Hasina's trial will be on the gallows: Sarjis

Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizens' Committee, said, "Hasina, the murderer who killed hundreds of my brothers, is sitting in India and giving shameless speeches on video conferences, killing, abducting, and murdering hundreds of people and then shamelessly demanding justice. Hasina, the murderer, will definitely be tried. She will be brought to Bangladesh and tried. The stage of her trial will be the gallows."

He made these remarks at a road blockade and protest program by relatives of martyrs of the July Movement at Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Thursday.

Sarjis Alam said, "As soon as the assistance to the martyr's family could have been arranged, it is not happening as soon as it should have been. The martyr's family members have come out on the streets; it is shameful for us. We will talk to the representatives of the martyr's family on Friday. On Sunday, they will meet the chief advisor. That day, they will present their demands."

Sarjis also said, "If this government cannot prosecute Sheikh Hasina and her cronies, then this will be the biggest limitation of this government. We will demand our demands from the government. The government must fulfill every reasonable demand of the martyr's family."

Family members of those killed in the July coup blocked the road at Shahbagh intersection in the capital at around 11:15 am today, demanding justice for the genocide and government recognition. Later, when Sarjis visited there, the relatives of the martyrs lifted the blockade at 6:30 pm.

Their five demands are: - The accused should be arrested within 10 days for the purpose of prosecuting each murder; state recognition should be given to the martyrs and injured brothers; arrangements should be made for the quick rehabilitation of the martyrs' families; fair compensation should be paid after discussing with the martyrs' families; and monthly compensation should be provided to the martyrs' families.

The families allege that they have been trying to meet the chief advisor for the past few months. But they are not being given that opportunity. Criticizing the ongoing judicial process in the July massacre, the martyrs' families have also called the matter a "circus". They say that many of those who ordered and planned the deadly crackdown have not yet faced justice.
